The past term in school had just been so busy, I didn't have much time to breathe let alone keep up with the blog writing and stuff. I promise myself to do better this term, and hopefully, this Bullet Journaling thing will help me work it all out.<br />
<br />
I first heard all about Bullet Journals in the latter part of December 2015 on Pinterest. There are loads of inspirations one can get in there. I got so excited about the concept that I decided to try it out as soon as the year 2016 started. Life took a turn though and I wasn't able to continue the journaling. At the time, I thought bullet journaling was not for me because of all the setting up I had to do before being able to journal (you know what I mean.)<br />
<br />
Anyway, during finals week last term, I came across a this <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sL_gvG31QaY" target="_blank">Plan With Me</a> video by YouTuber Amanda RachLee and she just made things look so fun and pretty and by the end of the video I was dying to have my own bullet journal. So I planned to start my journal by April. I do have a couple of things that I needed to buy before starting to bullet journal (or bujo as they call it) like a new journal and stuff but I already have colored pens at home so I don't really need much more but I do have a few things in mind to pick up.<br />
<br />
My friends and I had an appointment to watch "Beauty and the Beast" and, hitting two birds with one stone, I got to roam around Glorietta/Landmark/Greenbelt to pick up a few stationery items for my bujo.<br />
<br />
First, we dropped by Daiso where everything is at a bargain price of PhP.88. I planned to get a fountain pen and ink since I heard they Daiso has fountain pains at a bargain price. They weren't selling one, though but I picked up this brush pen instead, and it's my first brush pen so I was very excited to use it.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Of course I had to drop by National Bookstore. I was thinking of picking up my journal there, sadly, none of the journals available at NBS Glorietta spoke to me as "the one." I may seem overly dramatic here, but I really am very particular with buying stationery products. This journal (although I'm just gonna be trying bujo out) has to be perfect. I did pick up this Best Buy set of 10 matte sticker paper for PhP.33.50 and Elmer's All Purpose Glue Stick for PhP.37.50.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I wanted to get stickers but the ones available at NBS were a bit childish in design and a little on the expensive side. I figured I'd just get pictures off the internet and print them out on sticker paper or on ordinary paper (hence the glue stick.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next stop was a store I've been dying to go to ever since they opened their first store in the Philippines at Robinson's Manila. Miniso Glorietta just opened and it was just heaven for us girls who love to shop. I was so proud to say that I limited myself to stationery shopping while in there since getting these stuff for my bujo is already way out of my budget. Anyway, I saw that they have cheap notebooks (around PhP.149 to PhP.199) that can be used as journals but the notebooks where covered in plastic so you wouldn't be able to see if they have lines or such - I was looking for one with dotted or blank pages. We were on a rush so I wasn't able to ask the attendant if the notebooks have lines or what (our movie is about to start in 15 minutes and we needed to pick up some popcorn). I was able to get their 3 for PhP.99 gel ink pens and one washable watercolor pen set for PhP.149.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw_GpKZr35EOCigITuNETkZYYnklE15wTpW16KABHYUY46pa9oyXHJhU8Slwfo9BhOR4FJ0TetIOZQQx-FQGk1dei35vIG3cOukMljV8xIVW0NEavlzSn_lWvNi-ZlZ5WMIMRf8Xb9404/s1600/IMG_7123.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw_GpKZr35EOCigITuNETkZYYnklE15wTpW16KABHYUY46pa9oyXHJhU8Slwfo9BhOR4FJ0TetIOZQQx-FQGk1dei35vIG3cOukMljV8xIVW0NEavlzSn_lWvNi-ZlZ5WMIMRf8Xb9404/s320/IMG_7123.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I got the pens because they reminded me so much of the Muji gel ink pens (which are my faves) although the tips are thicker at 0.5. I got two black pens and one in blue. The watercolor pen set (I have no idea why they call this watercolor pens) was an impulse buy because I wanted to get brush pens. I thought they were really cheap at PhP. 149. I regret buying them though since the brush pens get frayed as soon as they touch the paper. I felt like I should have bought their dual ended brush pen singles instead.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Alas, I was able to get a notebook that I can use as my bullet journal at Muji.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I got this A5 notebook for PhP.165. It has 80 leaves and blank pages. And though it is a bit pricy, I didn't care cause it's from Muji (I'm a sucker for any Muji products.) And while I'm there, I decided to pick up two of my absolute favorite pen in the world: these are the Muji gel ink pens in 0.38. I just got the black inks though I wanted to get colored ones because the colors that have 0.38 are in shades of pink, red, or orange (which are not at all my type) and the shades of green and blue were only available at 0.5. I have tried their 0.5 gel ink pens before (I still have my green one at home) and I really prefer their 0.38 ones.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That is it for my bullet journal mini-haul. I didn't buy much since at the back of my head, I still have doubts if I'd be able to continue bullet journaling for a long time. I'm trying my best and so far so good. I'd be writing about my bullet journal set-up soon so watch out for that. </div>

By October I knew I was gonna fail, so I stopped trying. The thing was, I didn't really have a good enough excuse why I failed to finish the challenge: it wasn't the amount, for sure, since I listed about an average of one book per week so that's pretty much 'realistic'. I think the real culprit was just me and my overthinking. Last year was quite a challenge and it took me away from the things that I love (and that sure includes reading).<br />
<br />
So 2017 is a good enough start (I'm working on my second book this year, though the first two aren't really in my reading list, but it's a good start) and I want to share with you my own Reading Challenge for myself.<br />
<br />
This year's list is inspired by something I've seen on the internet. One day I was struck by the fact that I stuck with YA books last year and while there's nothing wrong with the genre, I just wanted something that will challenge my intellect. Part of my goal in 2017 is to focus on developing my mind and reading up on books that are far from my genre comfort zone is one way to do just that. I came across a list of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/books-to-read-in-your-lifetime-2015-10" target="_blank">Top 25 books that will blow your mind</a> and was a little bit sad that I've only read one of the books on their list. So this year I wanted my mind blown. Sadly, I was only able to get a copy of 19 out of the 25 books in the list, which for me was quite a low number for a reading challenge so I added a few books of my own.<br />

<br />
This month on my <a href="http://thephilippinebudgetarian.blogspot.com/2016/02/read-my-own-book-challenge.html" target="_blank">RYOB Challenge</a>, I've manage to get just one book of my list. I have valid excuses though: exams and schoolwork and vacation (I have loads of other hobbies I worked on - like sleeping). Still, it makes me a bit sad to know that I wouldn't be able to win this challenge. I have a few months to go though so I'd probably get through a few books more before waving the white flag.<br />
<br />
Anyway, so the lone book I've managed to read is Rick Riordan's Mark of Athena, the third book in the Blood of Olympus series. Part of the reason I was only able to read one PHYSICAL book this month is that I had to reread the Percy Jackson series and the first two books in the Blood of Olympus before I started on Mark of Athena. I've had to review the books because it was a long time ago when I read them and if you're also a fan of Rick Riordan's works, you'd know that each book is so action-packed. Even now that I've just reread them, I have a hard time recalling which events happened when. Not complaining though - I'm a big big fan of Rick Riordan and mythology in general.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnGpEBCWkLW1r8UPAjJfpMHdego4s2SkRDkUXTIKXR1-yoSO5ylfl6YNNhVzvJCNnE_CWWfh4XG7X_gSmv4en7DZ2kESM6MCr9-0zdec0yjWSEGXseO90gX9tdwrAXwxaBodE3s3YRn2I/s1600/image1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnGpEBCWkLW1r8UPAjJfpMHdego4s2SkRDkUXTIKXR1-yoSO5ylfl6YNNhVzvJCNnE_CWWfh4XG7X_gSmv4en7DZ2kESM6MCr9-0zdec0yjWSEGXseO90gX9tdwrAXwxaBodE3s3YRn2I/s640/image1.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"Annabeth is terrified. Just when she's about to be reunited with Percy - after six months of being apart, thanks to Hera - it looks like Camp Jupiter is preparing for war. As Annabeth and her friends Jason, Piper, and Leo fly in on the Argo II, she can't blame the Roman demigods for thinking the ship is a Greek weapon. With its steaming bronze dragon figurehead, Leo's fantastical creation doesn't appear friendly. Annabeth hopes that the sight of their praetor Jason on deck will reassure the Romans that the visitors from Camp Half-Blood are coming in peace.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And that's only one of her worries. In her pocket, Annabeth carries a gift from her mother that came with an unnerving command: Follow the Mark of Athena. Avenge me. Annabeth already feels weighed down by the prophecy that will send seven demigods on a quest to find - and close- the Doors of Death. What more does Athena want from her?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Annabeth's biggest fear, though, is that Percy might have changed. What if he's now attached to Roman ways? Does he still need his old friends? As the daughter of the goddess of war and wisdom, Annabeth knows she was born to be a leader - but never again does she want to be without Seaweed Brain by her side.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Narrated by four different demigods, The Mark of Athena is an unforgettable journey across land and sea to Rome, where important discoveries, surprising sacrifices, and unspeakable horrors await. Climb aboard the Argo II, if you dare...."</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My take on Mark of Athena: </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For me, this book started a bit slow. It took me a while before the book captured me completely - you know when you just start reading a line or two and suddenly you're in a different place? I'd be honest and say that this particular book didn't capture me as much as I expected - only on certain parts but mostly I was just ready to get it over with. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love that Percy and Annabeth are now back together. The two being apart makes me uneasy, really (I get to involved with the characters, forgive me, lol.) The group of seven demigods had quite a few adventures and I loved seeing that from the point of view of different characters: Leo, Piper, Annabeth, and Percy. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm quite biased though because I'm a huge fan of mythology as I've stated earlier. Greek and Roman gods fascinate me and I love how Riordan made each of the characters in the book. If you are a big in of mythology like me, you'd enjoy learning from Riordan's works - he portrays each character, God, demigod, mortal, or monster, in such a way that you can understand where they're coming from. The demigod's adventures will keep you on your toes of that I'm sure.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There are quite a few things about their adventures that made me raise my eyebrows though. First, there were quite a few instances where it seemed that they were doomed but they always get away unscathed. I personally don't like killing of characters but without deaths, it just seem a bit boring since you'd know they'd always survive (thank you George R.R. Martin). Second, the characters seem to be extremes in the brain department: geniuses at some points, but complete idiots at some. (Spoiler alert!) I would like to point out the instance when they save Annabeth from Arachne. If your lives are in danger you have to keep moving. You have to always be alert and even though you need to catch up with each other's stories - the first thing that you should do is to get in a secure and safe place. Which is exactly why the whole Annabeth and Percy falls into Tartarus event annoys me. Anyway, if the two didn't fall into Tartarus, they wouldn't be able to have the chance to close the Doors of Death from both sides. Still - that part was quite stupid for me. No offense, it's just my own honest opinion. I still love the series though.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

Still, whenever I can, I sneak in a mani-pedi session (which is usually on my off days while watching an Grey's Anatomy or whichever series I'm currently watching.)<br />
<br />
Last August I wore <a href="http://thephilippinebudgetarian.blogspot.com/2016/09/manicure-monday-shades-of-grey.html" target="_blank">different shades of grey</a> and though I love the classy look, I really missed wearing bold, bright colors. Hence this bottle of San San Nail Polish in Red Gleam worked her way out of my cupboards.<br />

I love the formulation of San San Nail Polishes - not too thin nor too thick, just right. I love the color pay off: just one swipe is pigmented enough even though I only have the thinnest amount of polish on the brush. It's brush is wide but isn't dry nor clumpy. I think for PhP. 37, the price is just right and it's available in San San outlets nationwide. I've had this bottle for over a year now and the formula and the brush are still in good shape. Longevity-wise, the polish stays on for about 2-3 days without chipping though I've had some issues with the color of the polish on my nails after a day or two: I think it lacked shine but it's nothing a coat of colorless polish couldn't fix. The only complaint I have on their nail polishes is that they don't have a wide range of colors. I'd love to hoard their nail polishes but aside from this shade, the only one that I loved from their collection was Sapphire.</div>

We may not be able to slow down time but what we can do is make the best out of it. My August had been slow at first with all the class suspension and all but we got loaded up with work as soon as we got back to school to make up for all the missed classes and it made me wish for more class suspensions.<br />
<br />
Anyway, although I got a bit swamped with schoolwork and wasn't able to read any book for about a week, I still am proud to say that I finished three books this month. Read on to find out what my thoughts are on these. I must warn you that I will be giving my honest opinions of what I thought about the books so if you are a fan, please don't hate on me. Also, there may or may not be spoilers throughout the review, so you have been warned/<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrDFLF3V811uA3O6GWygfS3aEwoA4mQmTjNwSDptLCOQFTzGE7SawD0sQITHeIQ_it8mv2Z8gzt9sB6db18EKPgXtSEojNut8u-RydnqRFsoWo7QdhkXGdxVc9dwx0GR_M0lIUijBLs4s/s1600/DSCN0241.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrDFLF3V811uA3O6GWygfS3aEwoA4mQmTjNwSDptLCOQFTzGE7SawD0sQITHeIQ_it8mv2Z8gzt9sB6db18EKPgXtSEojNut8u-RydnqRFsoWo7QdhkXGdxVc9dwx0GR_M0lIUijBLs4s/s400/DSCN0241.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First one on the list is Prodigy by Marie Lu, the second book in the Legend series. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"Elector Primo is dead. With his son Anden in control, the republic edges closer to chaos. Now joining the patriots might be June and Day's only option. But choosing sides comes at a cost....If the patriots are to trust them, June and Day must assassinate the new elector.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Yet the more June and Day discover about the revolution, the more suspicious they become. What if the new elector is nothing like his father? What if he's their chance for a new beginning?"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
My thoughts: So, in this second book, June and Day's story becomes more and more like the Hunger Games. Not exactly like it, but you'd be able to see notes here and there, especially when it came to their love story. Still, I was so curious with what has become of them and I needed to know more. In this book, June and Day gets closer than ever and their relationship gets put into test. Readers would get to know Tess more personally and how her relationship with Day is. A few heart-breaking moments here and there, and the new Elector Primo, Anden, shows a lot more promise than his father. And there are quite a few really unexpected twists with the plot.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I have to be honest though, and say that with Prodigy, I now get how some people say that Legend is overrated. It's still quite a good series for me, and Marie Lu's writing is superb, all I'm saying is it was oversold for me. If I had come across this series on my own, without hearing about it from other people, I would have fallen in love with it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next book is the third book in the Prodigy series, Champion. I'll warn you again guys, especially if you haven't read the previous books, spoilers ahead!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"June and Day have sacrificed so much for the people of the Republic - and each other - and now their country is on the brink of a new existence. June is back in the good graces of the Republic, working within the government's elite circles as Princeps-Elect, while Day has been assigned a high-level military position.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After months spent apart, neither could have predicted the circumstances that will reunite them. Just when a peace treaty is imminent, a plague outbreak causes a panic in the Colonies, and war threatens the Republic's border cities. This new strain of plague is deadlier than ever, and June is the only one who knows the key to her country's defense. But saving the lives of thousands will mean asking the one she loves to give up everything.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
With heat-pounding action and suspense, Marie Lu's bestselling trilogy draws to a stunning conclusion."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
My thoughts: This is the best book of the trilogy in my opinion. The plot twists are well-placed and completely unexpected, the technology is amazing even in my imagination, and the love triangle between Anden, Day and June will continue to break your hearts. In Champion, the Republic is caught in war against the Colonies and Africa. Day's woes are far from over as his brother's safety is again threatened and he sometimes still doesn't know whether he can trust the Republic or not. Still, in a very interesting twist, the Republic's future is on Day's hand as he had quite a few critical decisions to make. If you are rooting for June and Day together, you'd be heartbroken on the plot twist towards the end.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last book for this month is James Patterson's The 9th Judgment which is the 9th book in the series, Women's Murder Club.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"Detective Lindsay Boxer chases a jewel thief, a murderous movie star, and a killer with a vendetta against women and children.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A young mother and her infant child are ruthlessly gunned down in the garage of a shopping mall. There are no witnesses, and Detective Lindsay Boxer is left with only one shred of evidence: a cryptic message scrawled across the windshield in blood-red lipstick.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The same night, the wife of A-list actor Marcus Dowling is woken by a cat burglar who is about to steal millions of dollars' worth of precious jewels. In just seconds there is a nearly empty safe, a lifeless body, and another mystery that throws San Francisco into hysteria.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lindsay spends every waking hour working with her partner, Rich - and her desire for him threatens to tear apart both her engagement and the Women's Murder Club. Before Lindsay and her friends can piece together either case, one of the killers forces Lindsay to put her life on the line - but is it enough to save the city? With unparalleled danger and explosive action, The 9th Judgment is James Patterson at his compelling, unstoppable best!"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
My thoughts: I bought this book a few years ago at the National Bookstore Warehouse Sale for about PhP. 75.00. I actually got quite a few James Patterson books because I saw in an actress's blog that she is a big fan of his so I quite expected a lot out of this book. Right now, I couldn't be more disappointed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I honestly can't understand how this series ended up having 9 books. Okay, no offense to the fans but this isn't my kind of writing, I guess. I get that he tries that women empowerment route, but, I simply can't get myself to even pretend to like it. I got curious on how they'd be able to catch the criminals but meh.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This is one of those books wherein the characters can be too smart and yet too dumb. You know those moments when you read crime books and tell yourself, "They'd never be able to know who did that." and yet they somehow manage to screw up and get caught. The worst part of it all are the times when things just fall into place too effortlessly that it seemed that the characters are just too lucky, you wonder why they don't bet on sweepstakes everyday. I did appreciate the rich backgrounds of the character but the plot simply didn't give those characters justice.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

Better late than never, right? So, I would like to share with you guys my NOTDs for the month of August.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The past year, I've been really in to grey nail polishes. There's something about grey that makes it look classy and in the past few weeks, I've been searching for the perfect shade of grey to suit my skin tone. Unfortunately, the only accessible (and within budget) store to me is Watson's. Don't get me wrong though - Watson's is the best place on earth for budget beauty enthusiasts like me but this particular branch might be the smallest one I've ever been too, in short, they didn't have a large collection of nail polishes. They carried the typical cheap variants, which I totally love to loot, but the said variants do not have my perfect shade of grey. Still, a happy ending though, since I loved the polishes that I bought.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPb3iX9oaVPRHjmtWftkc8d3GK0umigI1FZ6vZJuc5eae7Oz4v2t5JpNk5b6e0ncK5f1nmXB3hNb_lFEB5l0pwfnfSJNssZJBUqQM74CwyP9WiVcMW1CGMtrpaa4saE_UsHo8woCvtRh4/s1600/IMG_5861.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPb3iX9oaVPRHjmtWftkc8d3GK0umigI1FZ6vZJuc5eae7Oz4v2t5JpNk5b6e0ncK5f1nmXB3hNb_lFEB5l0pwfnfSJNssZJBUqQM74CwyP9WiVcMW1CGMtrpaa4saE_UsHo8woCvtRh4/s400/IMG_5861.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div>
I got a total of four polishes (which seems a bit much for a month, since they are all from the same family shade), and like I've said earlier, I loved them all but half of me thinks that I should have just spent that money on a pricier variant of polish which carries the grey I was looking for.</div>
<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkSPT68QZL1fBaeQH0csyiDEgytuFbo2l5WehcjD1lGVQywuydq1F98rzsU5hx0_cZVRKekhN89hWKa9ff4t-Vvqb-t4tZKDgwv1LQIqEUIXhAh4n_hphqB9H4g9cCtRgXJL-o840ugiA/s1600/IMG_5833.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkSPT68QZL1fBaeQH0csyiDEgytuFbo2l5WehcjD1lGVQywuydq1F98rzsU5hx0_cZVRKekhN89hWKa9ff4t-Vvqb-t4tZKDgwv1LQIqEUIXhAh4n_hphqB9H4g9cCtRgXJL-o840ugiA/s400/IMG_5833.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
First, I got a Bobbie Nail Creme in the shade Cafe, which was totally not grey but they are from the same family of shade I guess (I swear they looked grey in the store). This is actually more of a mocha/brown/grey combination (heck it was named "cafe"-should have figured that out in the store before I bought it). I still loved it though. The brush was so easy to work with (a big relief when you've been using a sucky nail polish brush for a few weeks, but I'll get to that later). And I did notice that it lasted longer than the other brands I used (well it is quite a bit on the pricier side for a drugstore polish at PhP.48.00).</div>
<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSGizlS8c-PTC1PuF3Hfs1yza-d9Xxuckjf1jcst2JMIWXGv4V39Ly1unWJKY8UJ5lxQLUzkd_xJGLBWHkDTn1xn8rd1iYwf0n6PcG2HVGDRgh00muI6rsft_tpL5huynfEPaocWTfI_k/s1600/IMG_5825.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSGizlS8c-PTC1PuF3Hfs1yza-d9Xxuckjf1jcst2JMIWXGv4V39Ly1unWJKY8UJ5lxQLUzkd_xJGLBWHkDTn1xn8rd1iYwf0n6PcG2HVGDRgh00muI6rsft_tpL5huynfEPaocWTfI_k/s320/IMG_5825.JPG" width="240" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgY8chkMcEOoBgddWU4mO3PN_4agp8jK1ltC2M8nRTjeXfeIjvLPEhBUeFFRzF_brlHNR2LNZ0UGDh4lG0gHeI0YhAhT_KOzmG27fOrsOpoxfsFqQyw9zuTJRidsQPz0Qf0BToQ9QJcudY/s1600/IMG_5830.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgY8chkMcEOoBgddWU4mO3PN_4agp8jK1ltC2M8nRTjeXfeIjvLPEhBUeFFRzF_brlHNR2LNZ0UGDh4lG0gHeI0YhAhT_KOzmG27fOrsOpoxfsFqQyw9zuTJRidsQPz0Qf0BToQ9QJcudY/s320/IMG_5830.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
Next, I got two from Chic Nail Color. First is from their Kath-Queen collection in the shade Empress. It totally looked a light shade of grey, even when I applied it. Only when I saw my nails under the sun did I notice that it's actually more of a periwinkle blue. Although it wasn't grey, I loved it and I still do. I think it looked good on my skin tone. The second one is from the Glaze collection in the shade Ash. I didn't exactly love the shade but it's not bad at all. I would still use the bottle till it dries up but I definitely won't be repurchasing. All Chic Nail Colors cost PhP.33.00. Chic Nail Colors do offer a wide selection of shades and colors and they have a few different collections but I am not loving their brush. It's too thin for my liking, comparable to Caronia brushes, but unlike the Caronia ones, Chic brushes get dried up so easily that I have a hard time applying the polish. The first few uses would go smoothly, but after a few tries, it gets a bit stiff.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs864DW3TAgjUqcrwacOGRZRqnKfD_xFugbGjYiVhvvGh7dCKKF-WipmtfLy2fjX-fwlyN0YOWBu_MOpQrnvL76efFxziVvYWBX4CDlUmeHFakJdWEhmFIVUt9XGtM5C26wth-3zKgkPk/s1600/IMG_5755.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs864DW3TAgjUqcrwacOGRZRqnKfD_xFugbGjYiVhvvGh7dCKKF-WipmtfLy2fjX-fwlyN0YOWBu_MOpQrnvL76efFxziVvYWBX4CDlUmeHFakJdWEhmFIVUt9XGtM5C26wth-3zKgkPk/s400/IMG_5755.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The last nail polish I got was from OMG (Oh My Girl) and it's the first time I came across this new packaging of theirs (I know what a few of you might be thinking - have I been living under a rock?) Anyway, I don't know if their formulation is different from before but their polishes went up by PhP.10 from PhP.23 before. I don't know about you guys, but I want to buy my products for the product itself and not because they have cute packaging. Obviously, cute packaging is a big plus, but if a product is expensive BECAUSE they just have to have a cute packaging, that's a big disappointment for me. Anyway, I'm not really sure if OMG products did increase because they had better formulation or what. I loved this shade (Ashley) though, but I'm not too sure if I would be repurchasing this again after finishing up the bottle since I find that the formula dries out faster than the Chic Nail Colors (quick dry is good for my nails, but not on the longevity of the product.) </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
That is it guys for this month's NOTDs. I still am on a quest to find the perfect shade of grey, and I might just try out the pricier brands to find the ONE. Any suggestions which counter I should go to? Please do comment below your favorite shades of nail polish - I'd love to find new shades to try. xoxo </div>

Yesterday was a holiday here in the Philippines and I don't know about you guys but that was a much needed break from the craziness of the real world. On rest days, we all get the chance to find our center and balance things out - not to mention catching up on those much needed ZZZzzzs.<br />
<br />
So today, I'd like to talk about one of my favorite products of all time: face masks. I love face masks since it makes me feel like I'm treating myself to a spa (for about a tenth of the actual cost of spas) and my face always feels refreshed and soft afterwards. I personally love mud masks and peel off masks but they do take time with all that soaking and rinsing. Sheet masks are okay by me for weeknights when I feel like my skin needs more TLC but I find that sheet masks are a lot more expensive versus mud masks and peel off masks since you can only use a sheet mask once.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>I've always been fond of trying out different kinds of masks every time. I don't have a holy grail one yet since I love all those that I've tried. Browsing through my mom's Sophie brochure and I chanced upon this peel off mask with Vitamin C. I'm a sucker for vitamin c loaded products these days since they are known to help delay skin aging (I'm just in my 20's but I really am concerned about that - time is one thing you can't buy).<br />
<br />
So I gave in and bought this, it only costs PhP.130 so I decided there was no harm in trying. I've tried one other peel off mask before (something loaded with cucumbers and was really refreshing for the skin - it was a gift for my mom from my aunt but naturally, I was the one who used it up. That was eons ago and I forgot the brand name but I'm pretty sure it isn't available locally.)<br />

My take: I'm going to be really honest and upfront about this product and I'm going to get this out there, I didn't like the product. I've used this about four times thinking that the next time I'm gonna love it, but meh.<br />

<br />
The mask comes in a plastic tube that contains 50 grams. It has a creamy white liquid and dries up like a transparent white sheet. I didn't have a hard time applying it all over my face. When it comes to peel off masks, I apply a generous amount of the product, that way, you won't have a hard time peeling it off when dried properly.<br />
<br />
The first time I used it, it was a really hot day and after waiting for about 40 minutes, I had to take it off since I had a few things to do. It was already so long since I've applied it and it still hasn't dried up on my forehead. I started to peel it off from my chin going upwards and by the time I reach my cheeks, I had to scrape the product using my finger. It was nasty and my face felt raw afterwards. I used a lot of moisturizer to soothe my skin. Since the one on my forehead hadn't really dried up at all, I had to use my nails to take the product off (I remembered too late that I could have just used warm water to rinse it off).<br />
<br />
The second time I used it was at night before going to bed - definitely a wrong move. I waited for about an hour and the mask still hasn't dried (I admit that I did apply a little too much of the product) and I ended up not peeling it off but just rinsed with water because I was too tired and sleepy.<br />
<br />
After that I've used it a few more times and I observed that it takes about an hour and a half on the average before it completely dries up. Even for a peel off mask that is too much time. The next time I'm using it, I'd try to use just a thin layer of the product and see if I'd get better results. But for now, this prodcut is a fail for me. I'd love to try out the other masks available at Sophie Paris - they range for just around PhP.140-PhP.165 each tube. Buy this and other Sophie Paris products <a href="https://www.google.com.ph/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwilkeDPq-jOAhVBkJQKHbHvCPkQFgghMAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sophieparis.com.ph%2F&usg=AFQjCNFtx0VqPh79hEPqNrCRFHZ9qc0DnA&sig2=Aff5L4NtBVCFXkxnBTqK1g&bvm=bv.131286987,d.dGo" target="_blank">online</a>.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy Friday everyone! Today, I'm reviewing the Nichido Pressed Powder in the shade Tan. I learned about this particular product from beauty blogger Michelle Dy. What really hooked me on this is the packaging - it doesn't look like it only costs PhP.100!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is what the pressed powder looks like when opened. One mirror and one sponge with a plastic protective cover over the pressed powder itself.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's my take on the product:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First off, I'd like to talk about the packaging and the price. Like I've mentioned above, this costs only PhP. 100 but unlike other cheap products, it doesn't look cheap at all. The packaging is plastic and I think the color and the shape of the container is on point making it look sleek and a bit high-end.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I got the shade Tan which in itself is perfect for my morena skin. I love it all the more whenever paired to my Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation. The said foundation looks a bit gray on my skin and the pressed powder corrects that. That for me, is perfection.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Longevity-wise, this lasts on my oily skin for about 4-5 hours which is a good staying power for a pressed powder. I use it both as setting powder and to mattefy my skin during touch-ups and it doesn't make my skin cakey at all.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is accessible since it is available in Nichido counters nationwide which is in almost every Watson's store I go into.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The only real issue I have with this product is the sponge. I have bad experiences with Nichido spongess - they are rough on the skin so I don't use them at all. That is fine by me since I always have a powder brush at hand. Also, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are ingredients that would cause a white cast on the face especially when using flash photography so I'd be careful whenever using this during a photo shoot or the like. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
All in all, I LOVE this product. This might be my holy grail pressed powder - for its price, for its longevity, for the shade, for the packaging. I really love it. I recommend it to everyone especially those with oily skin like me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

LOL. I'm just the type of person who functions better in a clutter-free environment. Don't get me wrong - my room is messy about 90% of the time. But on days that I want to be productive I spend a good chunk of my time cleaning up my mess.<br />
<br />
I've always been fascinated with empties post and I meant to do one last month (which obviously didn't happen - I kept putting writing the article off and eventually, I decided if I can't make the time to write about it, it probably isn't worth the time reading). So, today's empties will be short since I did a MAJOR decluttering prior to this - just a few bits and pieces of junk and a couple that I'd be giving away to those who will be able to make a good use of it than me.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje3xvZmIURYYHcYV6fiQr6C1yYCGnweUt7nEC0z3BWvjuBMG5BB2anmuviganGN6GorCfQgqwQpGhQkmnM1llEE6AOzvIGVk6AnXmDVbpq0I7a7RXwPZJ6RWtw136Yu0j8zl8yVlUCOnQ/s1600/IMG_5785.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje3xvZmIURYYHcYV6fiQr6C1yYCGnweUt7nEC0z3BWvjuBMG5BB2anmuviganGN6GorCfQgqwQpGhQkmnM1llEE6AOzvIGVk6AnXmDVbpq0I7a7RXwPZJ6RWtw136Yu0j8zl8yVlUCOnQ/s400/IMG_5785.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First off are a couple of lotions. I go through lotions a LOT since I have really dry skin. I've been alternating between Nivea Intense Moisture Lotion and Musk by Alyssa Ashley, both are gifts from abroad so I really can't tell you their prices. Nivea is available locally at department stores, drugstores, etc. Musk by Alyssa Ashley on the other hand, is a little hard to get hold of. I've never seen it in department stores, etc. which sucks since this is probably my favorite lotion of all time: it smells amazing and it's non-greasy but still does a great job of moisturizing my dry skin. (I'm really oily on my face but I have really dry skin for the rest of my body - I don't get it). I'm not really sure if I'd buy another bottle of the Nivea lotion for full price since their yearly sale would save me tons but I do love their lotions and I'd hoard them in next year's sale. I would buy another bottle of the Musk by Alyssa Ashley, as I've said it's my favorite lotion but a little bit on the pricey side plus I only know of one place where I can get my hands on it (stores at the Mezzanine floor at Cash n Carry) which isn't really accessible for me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next is The Face Shop Clean Face Mild Lotion. I got through with the toner version of this so fast (which made me sad because this is PRICEY). But I'm pretty happy with this moisturizer which I've used for roughly 3 months in my estimate, which isn't bad at all. I'd be willing to spend money on this in the future, but right now, I'm trying out a few cheaper alternatives for a face moisturizer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Starting my make up empties is the Nichido Final Powder in So Natural. This was my favorite setting powder last year and I had quite a few months of good use out of it. This only cost me PhP.150 but there are quite a few products I'm currently testing out and since this isn't really a travel-friendly face powder, I'm still thinking if I will be repurchasing this. If I do repurchase this though, I'd go for a lighter shad than the So Natural since this is too tan for me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next is a tube of my holy grail mascara which is Maybelline Hypercurl. I've already repurchased this as I've said in my <a href="http://thephilippinebudgetarian.blogspot.com/2016/07/back-to-school-beauty-haul.html" target="_blank">back-to-school haul</a> and I think I will be purchasing a few back-ups since they are still on sale at the Watson's nearest to our place.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lastly are four tubes of lipstick, one from Avon cosmetics, which I'm throwing away since it's been about two years since I've bought it and the life span of a lipstick is only 18 months. The one from Maybelline which is the Maybelline Colorshow Lipstick in the shade Pinkalicious broke off after only a few uses. I know there are a few tricks of life hacks that would fix broken lipsticks, but I really am giving this one up since living in a tropical country, I need to have my lipsticks melt-proof. I don't want to be constantly fixing my melted lipstick. Next is a lip butter from Revlon in the shade sugar plum. I love this. It felt like I'm just using lip balm but it was just too creamy for me. So creamy that I have a hard time putting it on since it moves and leaves lines and such. I couldn't for the life of me make this work. Lastly is a once favorite of mine which is the Wet n Wild Mega Last Matte lipstick in the shade Rosebud. I've been using this lipstick for a while and lately I've realized that the color does not match me at all. It is quite a good bright pink shade for morenas like me, but I think it doesn't go well with my lip color (I have dark colored lips). So this and the lip butter will go to my sister since the shades work well for her.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

For some reason, this got me hyped to have a productive day - so I made myself a cup of tea and sat in front of my laptop and I'm now ready to talk about my Read Your Own Book Challenge July Update.<br />
<br />
I've been really bad doing this challenge. When I started this, I thought that four books a month is nothing. Now though, I'm afraid I won't be able to finish my target of 40 books this year. It's already July and I'm at 4/40! I know what you're thinking, for a self-confessed bibliophile, that's not really much. It just so happened that past few months, I've been sticking to reading on my phone and this challenge as I've said in my <a href="http://thephilippinebudgetarian.blogspot.com/2016/02/read-my-own-book-challenge.html" target="_blank">post</a>, I would only include physical books that I've read. In that article I also have a list of the books I'm targeting to read (which I update from time to time).<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFMHhyphenhyphenBIYZdz13m3L1GDDcxRr9H3OAyj5HIU8-5sUUqxXfDLyf62bNuDbzSo98u90XnIN1MKCoHcdqPDhsaXcaH1mAuXOAtPrnvFQMGelVCPXK4kHAok7Tc4ILD5TdaRrEm2Npt-Ws2Hg/s1600/IMG_5751.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFMHhyphenhyphenBIYZdz13m3L1GDDcxRr9H3OAyj5HIU8-5sUUqxXfDLyf62bNuDbzSo98u90XnIN1MKCoHcdqPDhsaXcaH1mAuXOAtPrnvFQMGelVCPXK4kHAok7Tc4ILD5TdaRrEm2Npt-Ws2Hg/s640/IMG_5751.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Anyway, enough with the ramblings. For the month of July, I've been much better at reading physical books. I think it's because I have more time of waiting in between classes. Also, now that I have something to do rather than just stay at home and be a bum, I also get more things done (hurray for the five articles I published last July!) The first book I finished is kind of a heavy one - it took me so long to be able to finish reading it because I have to constantly take breaks in between reading. I can't read this in one sitting - that's how good Stephen King is.<br />
<br />
Night Shift is a collection of short stories (20 in all). They all have all different themes but it IS Stephen King so all stories fall in just one genre: Horror (which is quite an understatement, I think they should create a whole new genre for Stephen King: Terror). I am not exaggerating on this guys. Reading Stephen King's work really gave me goosebumps. All these stories are heart-poundingly terrifying.<br />
<br />
"King's first collection of short stories showcases the darkest depths of his brilliant imagination. Here we see mutated rats gone bad ("Graveyard Shift"); a cataclysmic virus that threatens humanity ("Night Surf," basis for "The Stand"); a possessed, evil lawnmower ("The Lawnmower Man"); unsettling children from the heartland ("Children of the Corn"); a smoker who will try anything to stop ("Quitters, Inc."); a reclusive alcoholic who begins a gruesome transformation ("Gray Matter"); and many more shadows and visions that will haunt you long after the last page is turned."<br />
<br />
I'd like to talk about the stories one by one - I'll try my best to contain myself from giving away too much but just in case you don't want spoilers, just be safe and skip through this.<br />
<br />
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><b>Jerusalem's Lot</b> (basis for Salem's lot) is as much mind-fuck as it is terrifying. G<b>raveyard Shift</b> is a gruesome tale on mutated rats that only made me more wary when it came to them. <b>N</b><b>ight Surf</b> (basis for The Stand) a story on virus-caused apocalypse. Would love to get my own copy of The Stand since I have a thing for apocalyptic survival. <b>I am the Doorway </b>made my skin crawl. I Literally had to stop myself from reading cause I can feel myself getting more and more anxious. But even with the goosebumps, I can't stop myself from reading. <b>The Mangler</b> is a grueling story about a possessed laundry equipment. <b>The Boogeyman</b> is a heart wrenching story about a father of three children. <b>Gray Matter</b> is about an alcoholic man gone bad after drinking a contaminated can of beer. <b>Battleground</b> has more of an action plot but when you think about the main character's "enemies", it's kinda creepy. <b>Trucks</b> tell an apocalyptic story about a time when automotives take over the world. <b>Sometimes They Come Back</b> tells a story about a man dealing with bullies from his past. <b>Strawberry Spring</b> is about a serial killer who kills only when the weather is "strawberry spring." <b>The Ledge</b> is a nightmare for those who have fear of heights. I'm definitely not a acrophobic but this story got me a tingling feeling on my feet. <b>The Lawnmower Man</b> presents a modern mythology vibe. <b>Quitters, Inc.</b> tells a recovery tale about a smoker who seemed skeptical he could ever quit smoking. He then went on to prove that "Love is the most pernicious drug of all." <b>I Know What You Need</b> shows us that perfect relationships come with a price. Children of the Corn is about a skeptical and her husband got sidetracked from a trip that was meant to be a last ditch effort to save their marriage to a mysterious empty town. <b>T</b><b>he Last Rung on the Ladder</b> is another nightmare inducing story for acrophobes and it comes with a twist. <b>The Man Who Loved Flowers</b> is about a serial killer who kills for love. <b>One For The Road</b> is about a town near Salem's lot (first story) where people have learned to stay away from. I can't quite describe the last story, <b>The Woman in the Room</b>, but in a way, it was the most haunting of all the stories.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">I've read a couple of other works of Stephen King (<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11566.The_Green_Mile?ac=1&from_search=true" target="_blank">The Green Mile</a> and <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17660.The_Tommyknockers?ac=1&from_search=true" target="_blank">The Tommyknockers</a>) and so far, in every book that I've read, I always get surprised with his vast imagination. Horror by Stephen King is not your typical ghost story. In fact, I've never read one of his that really involved ghosts. But he has a way with telling stories of the supernatural that made give you more than just goosebumps and kept you from sleeping at night. I find that reading too much of his works can be too heavy especially on stressful days that's why I stay away from them. But we all need a good scare sometimes, and the adrenaline we feel after reading a terrifyingly awesome book is inexplicable. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">The other book that I've read this July (I actually finished it last night) is Legend from the Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">"From different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths ... until June's brother is murdered, and Day becomes the prime suspect. In a shocking turn of events, the two uncover what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths to which their country will go to keep its secrets."</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Okay, I got turned off from futuristic themed YA since I read Insurgent (no offense to fans, but it wasn't for me). I am a big fan of The Hunger Games trilogy and the problem with starting off with an awesome book is that it's hard to find similar-themed books and not judge them for being copycats (again, I do not mean to be rude or anything, this is just ME, my honest opinion). But Legend, to be honest is different. It is from the same theme: futuristic and all that but it tells a different story. It is so much different from The Hunger Games and I like that. It feels fresh to me. And I read somewhere that the author, Marie Lu, got the idea for this book from Les Miserables (one of my favorite classics). To be honest, I can't quite give a review without giving too much away, so I suggest you guys go ahead and read it. I had a hard time putting this down once I started it - but I had to because exams. But as soon as I was able, I read this non-stop. Right now I'm currently reading its sequel, <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13414446-prodigy" target="_blank">Prodigy</a> and it sucks because I have another exam coming on and I have to physically stop myself from picking this book up. It is light enough that I can read this to keep my mind off of things that bother me but intriguing enough that I have a hard time keeping myself from raving about it.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">So guys, that is it for my July Read Your Own Book Challenge Update. Keep up with my current reads by following me on <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/51996196-the-philippine-budgetarian" target="_blank">Goodreads</a> which I try so hard to keep updated. Comment below what book you are currently reading - I always love finding more books to read. xoxo</span></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJprrRd9eMtDod_1yZw-FmPjqKzg7fl8IUTS5GwG-lD0uk7xKuTgiTAiJL5birNu_INuV7s7MhBQhB0HF-gYiMSKq1eQTr1GbZxkQXfmDEqeQah9_VtCO33e6ICXPyblMGR6XB4I2EWtw/s1600/Manicure+Monday.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="80" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJprrRd9eMtDod_1yZw-FmPjqKzg7fl8IUTS5GwG-lD0uk7xKuTgiTAiJL5birNu_INuV7s7MhBQhB0HF-gYiMSKq1eQTr1GbZxkQXfmDEqeQah9_VtCO33e6ICXPyblMGR6XB4I2EWtw/s320/Manicure+Monday.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have to admit that even though I'm a positive person, oftentimes, Mondays do get me down. Today, for starters wasn't a very good start for me - having that monthly "visits" and looking forward to a kindah stressful week isn't a very good combination. Still, I'm all for kicking Monday's ass so I did my <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8WYY36I0uE" target="_blank">work out</a>, worked on my nails and now, working on this blog - you know what they say about working on the things that you love.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, for the whole month of July I've been obsessing on pastel colors. Late June, I got bored with my current collection of nail polishes but I so wanted to paint my nails, so I borrowed one from my sister and got my hands on a Girl Stuff nail polish. I love the color which was a creamy white, but there is no label at all about what exact shade it is (not even a number).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0Q_7DqE7P_FnZemPn-_dkOk2cyZB6dqZG7tfs2fTle6wWY94rsK-luKqNh6dI4sJeJcLFQqed8s95IktfZ387iXPdsF9W7DbjAMJehLcRAQurapVhh8zxtQfFlcQSZsx2cFnamU2Q9WQ/s1600/IMG_5513.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0Q_7DqE7P_FnZemPn-_dkOk2cyZB6dqZG7tfs2fTle6wWY94rsK-luKqNh6dI4sJeJcLFQqed8s95IktfZ387iXPdsF9W7DbjAMJehLcRAQurapVhh8zxtQfFlcQSZsx2cFnamU2Q9WQ/s320/IMG_5513.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The manicure did last a couple of days without chipping which is quite good given that I wasn't able to do my nails properly because the nail polish has gone all sticky and gooey (my sister has had it for over a year now).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After that I wanted more pastel shades badly, and since the nearest place I can get nail polish is from Puregold, I decided to check it out. And voila, I bought not one but THREE pastel nail polishes (plus a colorless top coat).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixvJkjYIKyBYT_HAuf4mXSJsdNvMvjnMB3G1ohlcr8txGHXfoZ-KfrcFbXO_wi1rlAJlI0je212J97juwA6oU7gsO3wHEnVPZXYzpHjrn0wI1mZie9kQzQvNLH38Z9IVwUPiVLOiCsx4E/s1600/IMG_5726.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixvJkjYIKyBYT_HAuf4mXSJsdNvMvjnMB3G1ohlcr8txGHXfoZ-KfrcFbXO_wi1rlAJlI0je212J97juwA6oU7gsO3wHEnVPZXYzpHjrn0wI1mZie9kQzQvNLH38Z9IVwUPiVLOiCsx4E/s320/IMG_5726.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
From top most: Gypsette from the Boho Chic Collection, Soju from the K-pop Collection, and Tsarina from the Kathryn Bernardo Collection.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I loved all these shades and although pastels don't really go well with morena skin, I felt like these three were quite good for my skin tone.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The picture does not give justice to how ugly my nails looked! I couldn't stand seeing my nails like this, I just had to take them off immediately. It was a serious rip off. I know it only cost me PhP.33 but I want to get my money's worth for everything that I buy. I gave the nail polish another chance, to no avail. So disappointed with this one.</div>

Any beauty enthusiast would agree with me that the search for the perfect skin care routine is a constant battle. Sometimes, what worked out for you before won't work now or your skin "got used" to the product that it doesn't give a wonderful effect anymore. There are a lot of factors that causes this, your skin might be different or your hormones are acting up or your diet. Anyway, the only real solution for this is to constantly try out new skin care products. A few things to keep in mind when trying new stuff out: give a new product two weeks to work before deciding whether you like it or not, often it takes that long for something to work its full effect. Also, try rotating you holy grail products after two to three months of use so you can give your skin a rest for a while.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Today, I will be sharing with you guys the new skin care routine I've been trying out for a couple of weeks or so (basically when school started). A few weeks before I started this particular routine I've been breaking out on my forehead which is probably an allergic reaction to dust (we had a general cleaning of the house). I found that my skin care routine back then wasn't doing much for the problem. Usually when I break out it only takes a week to dry, I knew I had to change my routine after a couple of weeks without any improvement on my break outs.</div>

DAY Time</h2>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0V0pNEUil-qEz9uAbis52Ibp2QrJCja8rhehKIiU_-yudfgiMJkVa7Ut4l34VHtWAIkyn-sr_Xe3Bg8tIe9UJKUa_MvHQHV2EX7bTJTrLvSNWCN4ji9-J5c-erzl7qPzwNzuPoxIA-xA/s1600/IMG_5648.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0V0pNEUil-qEz9uAbis52Ibp2QrJCja8rhehKIiU_-yudfgiMJkVa7Ut4l34VHtWAIkyn-sr_Xe3Bg8tIe9UJKUa_MvHQHV2EX7bTJTrLvSNWCN4ji9-J5c-erzl7qPzwNzuPoxIA-xA/s400/IMG_5648.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
</div>
<h3>
Pore Refining Soap</h3>
<div>
I got this from <a href="https://www.instagram.com/estetica.ph/" target="_blank">estetica.ph </a> for PhP. 110 (100g). I decided to divide the bar into 6 since it melts quite quickly. I'm not really sure it does a good job refining my pores, but my pores (especially around the nose) are quite big. What I do love about this is that it has a really mild smell that is just perfect ( I hate super fragrant cleansers) and it doesn't strip my face of essential oils (I hate cleansers that make my skin feel so stretched out, contrary to popular belief: squeeky clean face is NOT good since it actually makes you produce more oil to make up for the lost moisture, then your face ends up too shiny).<br />
<br /></div>
<h3>
Dickinson's Witch Hazel Toner</h3>
<div>
Next I use a toner. I put this on a cotton pad and apply it in a circular motion all over my face (giving special attention to my forehead) and I love love love this toner: it dried my break outs in under a week. It only cost me PhP. 89 for a bottle of 2 fl.oz. I got this from Healthy Options.<br />
<br /></div>
<h3>
Quick FX Eyelift Cream</h3>
<div>
This particular eye cream promises A LOT but to be honest, I don't think it delivers. I still use it though because it bothers me not to use eye cream (I've yet to find the perfect day eye cream). It does have a light water based consistency which is perfect when you're wearing make up. Also, it gives a bit of cooling sensation upon application. Other than that, I've yet to see any positive effect when using this, maybe in the long run? It only costs PhP.49, and I think the packaging is hygienic so in the mean time, I'd be using this as day eye cream.<br />
<br /></div>
<h3>
Garnier Light Complete Multi-Action Whitening Cream Extra UV Protection</h3>
<div>
As I've said in my <a href="http://thephilippinebudgetarian.blogspot.com/2016/07/back-to-school-beauty-haul.html" target="_blank">Back-to-School haul</a>, I only bought this because I bought its night "version" and I needed a day cream anyway. SPF20 might not be the recommended amount of SPF for daily but other than that, I do not have issues with this product. It has a creamy but easily blendable consistency and it surprisingly has a matte finish (perfect for my oily skin). It sets quite quick so I don't have to wait too long before applying make up. All that at a very affordable amount of just PhP.84.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
Nivea Essential Care Lip Balm</h3>
<div>
I use a lip balm EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. In mornings this is actually the first one I put on when doing my skin care so by the time I start my make up, my lips are hydrated. Not a big fan of this Nivea lip balm though. I've used up quite a lot of tubes of Nivea lip balms before, and to be honest, I was quite disappointed with this. It does hydrate my lips well, so thumbs up for that BUT it has a heavy consistency for a lip balm, I feel like I'm wearing lip gloss (which I am so not a fan of - that's why I stick to lipsticks) and it totally melted and lost its shape. That's bad considering I've just been using it for a week. I prefer the Nivea Medicated lip balm not only because of its consistency but also because it has SPF and didn't melt. Still, I'm making this lip balm work as best as I can.</div>

<h2>
NIGHT Time</h2>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjffjngq46SCM_1Jy0MmWtd6PSsaAzuPI46dFRpiZrQ4Fn64BVQ9qzeuZ60_yBwgUZtBM6fzVTeyiZMynZ5okTtXvRYuLqRDI5MyiPMswSOhCpyxvSK_rdrQwGvs2yaQX6BhyphenhyphenKrgA51XsQ/s1600/IMG_5650.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjffjngq46SCM_1Jy0MmWtd6PSsaAzuPI46dFRpiZrQ4Fn64BVQ9qzeuZ60_yBwgUZtBM6fzVTeyiZMynZ5okTtXvRYuLqRDI5MyiPMswSOhCpyxvSK_rdrQwGvs2yaQX6BhyphenhyphenKrgA51XsQ/s400/IMG_5650.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My cleanser, toner and lip balm are the same for my night time routine, there are only a couple of things that I change and a few additional. On days that I wore make up, I use Pond's Cold Cream Cleanser (which I forgot to take a picture of) which I absolutely love since it melts make up so easily. Then wipe the cleanser off using tissue. I then proceed to washing my face with the pore-refining soap and then follow up with the toner, same as I use in the day time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<h3 style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Garnier Light Complete Multi-Action Whitening Serum Cream Night Restore</h3>
<div>
I bought this because it is a serum and cream in one. Like its day version, I love this product because it doesn't make my face sticky. You can definitely tell that it's richer than the day cream but it still is as easy to apply. At PhP. 99, I think this is a very good night cream/serum. I'm not too sure about its whitening ability though - so far I haven't noticed any significant changes.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
Castor Oil</h3>
<div>
Castor oil is known to be a great substitute for eye cream. I definitely noticed a significant lightening of the dark circle under my eyes - though it doesn't erase them totally. I was born with dark under eyes and the constant lack of sleep is not helping but I'm glad this castor oil works. I put a bit of the oil on the tips of my ring fingers then gently tap it onto my orbital bone. After, I put a bit again to my ring fingers and run it along my lash line since castor oil is known for making the lashes longer and fuller. The only down side to this is that it's super sticky (since it IS an oil).</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
iWhite Korea Nose Pack</h3>
<div>
My other main problem aside from oiliness is the blackheads on my nose. I prefer using a peel off nose pack because I can shape it around my nose the way I want. I extend application on my cheeks since peel off masks does a good job of taking away sebum from your pores (sebum is a big factor in large pores). I let it dry for at least 30 minutes upon application and peel it off gently from the base. Afterwards, I immediately use my aloe vera soothing gel to avoid itchiness. I only use this 2-3 times a week and not on consecutive nights since it can make your skin peel (which does not look good). </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And that is it for my Back-to-School Skin Care Routine. As you can see, my routine is far from perfect, but as I've said above, this is a constant battle. Let me know if you have other suggestions regarding must-try skin care products and I'd love to know which are your holy grail ones.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Today's Top 5 Tuesday is a continuation of my Back-to-School special. Here's an extra challenge for beauty enthusiasts like me: how to get a perfectly made up face that could last all day.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We've all been there: the waking up early despite the late nights, the sweat from going around the campus, 12-hour days were you couldn't even pause and take a glimpse on a mirror (at some point, you'd find yourself looking at any reflective surface to assure yourself that you are presentable, at least). The answer to this hectic days of our lives: low-maintenance make up.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I rarely have time for touch-ups in between classes, and I sweat a lot. To top it all off, I have oily skin. So the search for the perfect make up products is a continuous battle for me. But for now, here are my back to school makeup essentials. A bit of a bonus on this article: each product costs PhP.350 or less.</div>

<h2 style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. Maybelline New York Baby Skin Pore Eraser</h2>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The main job of a primer is to fill in the rough spots on our skin making the make up base (whether you use bb cream or foundation) glide on smoothly. This primer from Maybelline is my holy grail primer: it's cheap at only PhP.300, it's available pretty much everywhere, and it's mattifying - perfect for my oily skin. I put this on under my foundation and on occassion, I use it to mattify my face when I do have the time for touch-ups (after blotting away the oil and before I put on powder).</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<h2 style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Maybelline New York the Hypercurl Volum' Express Waterproof Mascara</h2>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I find that using mascara makes a big difference in my look. Maybelline's Hypercurl Waterproof Mascara is another holy grail product for me. Just like the primer above, this is also a cheap product at PhP.149 and available everywhere (even in the groceries). It is waterproof as promised and does not give me racoon eyes. The best thing about it is that I don't feel the need to curl my lashes before using (that's a minute or two less in my morning preparation).</div>

<br /></div>
<h2>
4. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick (440-Cherries in the Snow)</h2>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguNlOglNRPihHHRB_NIrrntbHgBJicePDkMyl46P2oK1H_DTDUDMAIZSZwUze7uFEFgUrcUNXVJo-WGSvou8fGb9VImqXlMdH4pBPldDYOjrw636_FK3Hi_m7eazqPwxVpuBnQ5zqZIS4/s1600/FullSizeRender_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="60" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguNlOglNRPihHHRB_NIrrntbHgBJicePDkMyl46P2oK1H_DTDUDMAIZSZwUze7uFEFgUrcUNXVJo-WGSvou8fGb9VImqXlMdH4pBPldDYOjrw636_FK3Hi_m7eazqPwxVpuBnQ5zqZIS4/s200/FullSizeRender_1.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was born with dark lips. I got it genetically and there's nothing I can do about it hence lipsticks are heaven sent for me. Since I don't really use eye shadow, I go for bold lips - reds and pinks and mauves. This lipstick from Revlon is the PERFECT shade of hot pink for me. Aside from the PERFECT shade, it has a creamy consistency so it doesn't dry my lips out and doesn't bleed or feather out, so no need to line your lips. It leaves a bit of stain and lasts pretty much the whole day (a teeny bit of retouch after eating or drinking). It does transfer but I think that's a trivial issue compared to its pros.</div>

<h2>
5. L.A. Girl HD Pro Conceal (GC973-Creamy Beige)</h2>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have yet to find my holy grail concealer, but so far, the LA Girl HD Pro Conceal is a good enough product for me ( I have issues with the packaging, and sometimes I have trouble with blending) but it is a great under eye concealer since it does not crease. I don't recommend this for hiding blemishes though, I think it's not as effective as other concealers. For me, that's okay since I don't typically use concealer for my blemishes (personally, I think it does more harm than good, and I feel like it makes my make up a bit cakey). All in all though, I think it's a good enough concealer especially if you consider the price, I got mine from <a href="https://www.instagram.com/chedelyncosmetics/" target="_blank">Chedelyn Cosmetics</a> though I forgot the price (but it's definitely around PhP.250). This concealer is available in select Watson's and LA Girl booths nationwide but you can buy this online for a much cheaper price than in the mall.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My take on the book: I've been a beauty enthusiast for about 8 years now. I've read a lot of magazines and scrolled through online articles and such, and in all honesty, most of the "tips" that she shared weren't exactly new. If you are a beginner on makeup and skincare and all that, this would be a really good compilation of all the information that you need.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I don't regret buying this book though. I love watching makeup collection videos, beauty hacks, and morning and night routines on YouTube. I love reading about all the beauty tips that she swears by.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That is it guys. I hope that I've given you enough idea on the book. Have you read this one too? I would love to hear your take on this book on the comments below!</div>

Hopefully, I could come up with a routine for the term and find time to blog more regularly (keeping fingers crossed). Anyway, it's weird starting school in July. Still, it's the best I could hope for given my situation and I'm so glad I can fill up my days with something worthwhile again. What better way to start a new academic year than a shopping haul?<br />

First, we have the necessities:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSoBxjj0vjLD2x2NhCkon5YNH4iEvHY46KDmuun-zCo2sgERMA7S33i5Gs42hZAY3I0Xu0HDIAl5KMFFkml8o3LhPDHiRXNESwZ1znlgYmNLYXAWx0bxE0_n7_WHhWb1KEKAaG-uIWz58/s1600/Picture6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="234" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSoBxjj0vjLD2x2NhCkon5YNH4iEvHY46KDmuun-zCo2sgERMA7S33i5Gs42hZAY3I0Xu0HDIAl5KMFFkml8o3LhPDHiRXNESwZ1znlgYmNLYXAWx0bxE0_n7_WHhWb1KEKAaG-uIWz58/s320/Picture6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Cuddles Cotton Pads from Watson's (100's) - PhP. 47</li>
<li>Med + Guard Anti-Bacterial Wipes with moisturizer from Watson's (10's) - PhP.25</li>
<li>Nylon Exfoliating Gloves from Watson's (1 pair) - around PhP.70</li>
</ul>
<div>
I prefer using cotton pads over cotton balls. Although they are more expensive than cotton balls (a lot more expensive, actually), I feel like it dispenses the product more efficiently. When I'm using cotton balls, I feel like the product (usually a toner) is being absorbed by the cotton rather than my skin, so I get more of my money's worth when I use cotton pads. Cuddles is a brand I've been using ever since and they are cheap for a cotton pad. The wipes were an emergency purchase when we passed by SM Makati on one of those oven-hot days. It's also quite cheap for a wet wipe at PhP.2.50 each. I don't use it on my face though since I suspect it contains alcohol. I purchased the gloves as an alternative to body scrub. After President Obama banned products with microbeads in the US, I was a bit hesitant to purchase scrubs (which, surprise, surprise, contain microbeads). Exfoliating is good for the skin, but I don't want to cause pollution while doing so. Besides, using exfoliating gloves makes scrubbing much easier and faster.</div>

<br /></div>
<div>
On Skin Care we have:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSyaDv3kEgB1XVTn5vFgvARbbD3gzbQ697e3CetPX6CmeY9X5ht6Ig9tqIwNfFWl_R88qvvJgQKYde-3WWsLswNW_JNVlMo5NaLohqVOhFv5qQJQUHQUgME93uoRGfpO8Ng4WpM8mfBvw/s1600/Picture5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSyaDv3kEgB1XVTn5vFgvARbbD3gzbQ697e3CetPX6CmeY9X5ht6Ig9tqIwNfFWl_R88qvvJgQKYde-3WWsLswNW_JNVlMo5NaLohqVOhFv5qQJQUHQUgME93uoRGfpO8Ng4WpM8mfBvw/s320/Picture5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<li>Dickinson's Original Witch Hazel Toner from Healthy Options, PhP.89</li>
<li>Garnier Muti-Action Whitening Cream from Puregold, PhP. 84</li>
<li>Garnier Multi-Action Whitening Serum Cream from Watson's, PhP.99</li>
</ul>
<div>
I've been meaning to buy the witch hazel face and body toner from Healthy Options for a while. They say it's good for the face and also helps with varicose veins. Sadly, whenever I'm at Healthy Options in MOA, they were out of stock. But when we passed by Healthy Options at SM Manila, there were tons of them. I ended up buying the toner exclusively for the face (the other one was blue and was meant for the face and body) since I'm a sucker for Pore-Refining toners. I'm also planning to get the face and body toner soon. Then I got the Garnier Night Serum Cream because I wanted to try a night cream for so long. I realized too late though, that I'm out of moisturizer too so I bought the Garnier Multi-Action Whitening Cream for Puregold (hehe).</div>

Makeup Needs:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Maybelline Hypercurl Volumizing Mascara from Watson's, PhP.149</li>
<li>Etude House Drawing Eyebrow (No.2) from Landmark, around PhP.179</li>
<li>Gatsby Oil Control Film from Landmark, PhP.99</li>
</ul>
<div>
I'm in the middle of my make-up use up project (I have so much in store and I'm net very keen on keeping makeup for too long) so I just purchased my needs. Maybelline Hypercurl mascara is my go-to mascara since it only costs PhP.149 but it can do wonders on your lashes! I'm not a fan of buying expensive mascaras for they expire in three months. If it is waterproof and volumizing and black, I'm good. I'm also out of eyebrow product and I've recently read a good review on Etude House's Auto Eyebrow. The best thing about this is the shade - they have gray! As a rule, if you have dark hair, your eyebrows must be 1-2 shades lighter than your hair. And ladies, please, brown is NOT 1-2 shades lighter than black. I used to use Maybelline Crayonbrow (I forgot the exact shade but it's also gray) but I think they've stopped producing them (I hate Maybelline for that). The only downside to this Drawing Eye Brow is that it's not travel friendly. My sister broke hers in under two weeks and I've read a few reviews having the same problem. Lastly, I got an oil control film. Gatsby came in highly recommended by my sister who swears by them since it already has powder in it. Less hassle in touch ups.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Nail Care:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie5fqOMRa5GnvTqeNyFMQkJzIOd0cWUKn1_DpcdrDyFeANzTbMUYJfvcTwLnL8DeMSrw5EqRgEc4KTIX8wM0y6h18EOXgKVkCU1BZbUfgSmWpd_QmB5GMWcH6Z_Q_MSijw2vpBlTiihmU/s1600/Picture2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="295" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie5fqOMRa5GnvTqeNyFMQkJzIOd0cWUKn1_DpcdrDyFeANzTbMUYJfvcTwLnL8DeMSrw5EqRgEc4KTIX8wM0y6h18EOXgKVkCU1BZbUfgSmWpd_QmB5GMWcH6Z_Q_MSijw2vpBlTiihmU/s320/Picture2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Chic Nail Polish from Puregold, PhP.33 each</li>
<li>Bobbie Cuticle Softener from Watson's, PhP.30</li>
</ul>
<div>
This last set wasn't really on my mind when thinking about back to school beauty needs. A couple of weeks ago, I wasn't a fan of pastel nail polish. You would see me in dark bold colors or beige and white neutrals, but never in pastels - that is, until I tried my sister's pale peachy cream pastel nail polish. It was so elegant and youthful and I can't stop myself from buying just one (at PhP.33 each I figured I wasn't spending much - at least that's what I told myself), check out my <a href="https://www.instagram.com/thephilippinebudgetarian/" target="_blank">Instagram</a> for swatches. The Bobbie cuticle softener also wasn't part of my list. Funny story: I just buy the PhP.5 cuticle softeners available at your friendly sari-sari store, but due to a misunderstanding with my brother whom I gave PhP10.00 for two cuticle softeners from a store near home, I ended up with the Bobbie one from Watson's and then blamed me for not giving him enough money. LOL. Anyway, it was quite big so I wouldn't be needing a new one for a while.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<br />
<div>
That was everything I got for this haul. I hope you all have a lovely week ahead. Happy Sunday!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This month I chose a lovely shade of pink from For Me. This is For Me Paris with Love in Bonbon Pink. I got this polish as a gift from my sister Christmas of 2015 (I say "gift" but I kindah guilted her into buying me this while she was clothes shopping).</div>

I'm loving this color very much and I'm actually on the hunt for a lipstick shade like this. I've been crushing on the lip shade of Vanessa of Phineas and Ferb cartoon (I know, I know guilty pleasure, haha!) and so far I've failed to find one. If you guys know a lipstick with the exact shade, do tell me in the comments below. Have a lovely week ahead!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;">A few weeks ago, I've scoured the mall for a new brow product as my eyebrow pencil is down to its last few uses. But of course, I ended up buying a bunch of stuff and NONE of those were brow product. Still, I'm very happy with my purchases especially this Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel from <a href="https://www.naturerepublic.com/eng/product/detail.jsp?nseq=3&sPage=10&line_cd=1&brand_cd=" target="_blank">Nature Republic</a>. I may be extremely unobservant but it is only now that I've heard of aloe vera soothing gel and I noticed that most of Korean Skin Care shops have one (and we've gone through all the Korean Skin Care shops at MOA). Nature Republic's soothing gel was the cheapest one though (PhP. 245) and so I decided to give it a try.</span><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;">HOW TO USE: Apply an appropriate amount to dry, sensitive parts of the face and body often foe the best results.</span>"</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The 300 ml product comes in a plastic jar which, in my opinion, is not a good way to store this since it can be very unhygienic (to make this a little more hygiene-friendly, I transferred it in a smaller pot and used up those that I've transferred first). At first I actually thought the product was green, but I was surprised that it was clear. It smelled really amazing too. I tried it at the store and it was so refreshing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The real selling factor for me though, is that this product has so much uses.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1. Moisture Cream and Mask pack for urgent moisturizing. (Recommend to mix Aloe vera with Jojoba oil)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2. Moisturized Base Make-up (Recommend ti use it when make-up base or foundation)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
3. For After Shave Cream</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
4. Hair Treatment For Natural hair styling to mix Gel with treatment</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
5. Eye pack to comfort skin. For cooling use, keeping it in refrigerator</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
6. Nail Essence Apply on nail for moisturizing and revitalizing</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
7. Body Lotion Apply on body to mix it with Avocado oil</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
8. Pack to comfort skin keep it in refrigerator and apply on sensitive skin</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>What I've used it for:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: left;">I tried using it as moisturizing cream for the face and I enjoyed it at first since it felt so refreshing on the skin. After a while though, I've developed a few tiny bumps on my face particularly on the chin area. I stopped using it immediately and got the bumps in control. So, I don't think this will work as moisturizer for me.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">I have never tried using it as Make up base so I wouldn't know if it really works, but it dries quickly enough so I'd leave that for you guys to try out for yourselves.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Of course, I don't shave my face, but I've suggested this to my brother, and he said that it did a good job in preventing after-shave itchiness.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">I've used it as leave-in conditioner for the hair on days that I've washed my hair and I've loved it since it doesn't make my hair too greasy. (I've heard that aloe vera is really good for the hair) I've had no significant change in my hair health, though.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">I also tried putting a bit of the product onto cotton pads, let the pads cool in the fridge and used it as eye mask. I just put it on my eyes, then put a cotton eye mask on top so as to keep it in place, and it was really relaxing.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">I have mixed feelings when I've used it as nail essence since I didn't feel like it moisturized the skin around my nails enough but it felt good since it wasn't as greasy as the nail essences I've tried before.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">On its own I don't think this Soothing Gel is enough to moisturize my body, although it really felt great on top of my daily lotion.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Heat rash is common during the summer time and it does a great job in soothing irritated skin. Putting it in the fridge before application makes it all the more refreshing.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Last, but certainly not the least, I've mixed about a tablespoon of this gel with 50ml water and put it in a spray bottle. I keep the bottle in my bag and spray it anywhere on my body that I need to freshen up. With this trick, I was glad that I didn't buy the Aloe Vera Soothing Mist.</li>
</ul>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
All in all, I think this is a good product as it is very versatile and is definitely a <a href="http://thephilippinebudgetarian.blogspot.com/2016/04/top-5-tuesday-summer-essentials.html" target="_blank">summer essential</a> (perfect for everyday use for those who live in a tropical country like me). I'm halfway through my tub and I'd definitely repurchase. I was a bit disappointed that it didn't work out as a facial moisturizer for me, but it still has a thousand uses and therefore definitely is worth the money. </div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqYqSqpoqgxGnZWgmefeOX4F-ho8Zv3Y-N5qZ7q0L3Utku-UdBr_jkVAF-A4SuZ8UYSspq_PWsqm_s_2wqXvhAFyCJpetT_EJr6AJr2VeqpwoEqlbHwjJDb138eXZ8zBNiTfvXW1cqF34/s1600/Picture6.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="130" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqYqSqpoqgxGnZWgmefeOX4F-ho8Zv3Y-N5qZ7q0L3Utku-UdBr_jkVAF-A4SuZ8UYSspq_PWsqm_s_2wqXvhAFyCJpetT_EJr6AJr2VeqpwoEqlbHwjJDb138eXZ8zBNiTfvXW1cqF34/s400/Picture6.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Summer is HERE! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Okay, it's been a few weeks since summer officially started and we can really feel the heat. This may be an unpopular opinion but summer's not my favorite time of the year and I think anyone who lives in a tropical country is of the same opinion. But still, it's the best time to go to the beach and unwind and look at the brighter side of things. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So today I'll be sharing a few tips on how to stay cool (in the literal sense) and still enjoy summer without hurting your wallet (each product is less than PhP. 500).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQdq8r0h2hc72c6_I-avg4QJGXyhyEvx7edPoKYDx4L9gpRuXwaATKtut3pAHDJEhosDjO5uOsBK0EC3hc9kKEpW5TEoDRKqhglY6DTPZpdTuqsQYIGVmF42RjwU7fuqZRLuPLIkxBrps/s1600/DSCN0152.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQdq8r0h2hc72c6_I-avg4QJGXyhyEvx7edPoKYDx4L9gpRuXwaATKtut3pAHDJEhosDjO5uOsBK0EC3hc9kKEpW5TEoDRKqhglY6DTPZpdTuqsQYIGVmF42RjwU7fuqZRLuPLIkxBrps/s320/DSCN0152.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><span style="font-size: large;">1. Nivea In-Shower Conditioner</span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What's a real pain in the ass? Moisturizing in the sweltering heat. Those after shower moments when you don't know if it's water or sweat that's running down your body and you put lotion on and everything is just sticky? Been there, done that. The problem is, I can't forego lotion since my skin tends to be super dry. Thank God for In-Shower Conditioners. Body conditioners are skin moisturizers that you use in the shower. After washing up, rinse your body and apply body conditioner then rinse. No need to put lotion on after. It's a real life and time saver. I bought my Nivea In-Shower Conditioner during this year's Nivea 50% off sale for only PhP. 84.50.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><span style="font-size: large;">2. Johnson's Baby Powder Prickly Heat</span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Heat causes excessive sweating and excessive sweating causes heat rash. It's incredibly itchy and painful and irritating. As per mom's advice, I used Johnson's Baby Powder Prickly Heat. Upon application, it feels like ordinary powder, but after a while there is a cooling sensation, and that I think is the best thing about this powder. It's so cheap, I know I got mine for less than PhP. 20. I bought the smallest size to try it out and I know I'll be buying the bigger one soon.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><span style="font-size: large;">3. Belo Sun Expert Transparent Mist and Nivea Med Protection Lip Balm</span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sun protection is recommended daily but it is a summer ESSENTIAL. This is pretty basic and self-explanatory but I think it's worth mentioning that our lips need SPF too. Lips, like our hands, feet neck and eyes, show the first signs of aging and needs a LOT of TLC. I use the Nivea Med Protection Lip Balm which has SPF 15 and smells so good, that I bought in last year's Nivea 50% off sale for around PhP. 50. For my face and body, I use Belo Sun Expert Transparent Mist which has SPF 50 and PA+++. It's lightweight, invisible and handy. The only cons are the packaging (cap always falls off) and it can sometimes cause too much oiliness on the face (it does a great job in shielding my skin from the sun, so no complaints, I can just blot the oil out). This one I got for PhP. 450.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><span style="font-size: large;">4. Nivea Invisible Black and White</span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It goes without saying that the world is full of pollution, I am imploring every one not to contribute to that pollution with a nose pollution of our own. The heat is not an excuse for body odor. Shower (twice or more if one couldn't cut it), groom and use necessary products to keep ourselves clean. This isn't really a beauty issue but more of a hygiene one. The thing is, deodorants can ruin your clothes and once that's happened, there is simply no going back. I use Nivea Invisible Black and White and it has saved so many clothes of mine. Again, I got this from this year's Nivea 50% off sale for around PhP. 80-90.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><span style="font-size: large;">5. Nature Republic 92% Aloe Vera Soothing Gel</span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I can't think of the best way to describe this gel, I'll just go for AWESOME. This is an all-around gel I use for practically everything: heat rash (before applying Johnson's Prickly Heat), leave-on conditioner for hair, moisturizer, eye gel, etc. I love it so much I'm actually beating myself up for not buying two jars. It's so cheap too! I got mine from Nature Republic at the Mall of Asia for just PhP. 245. Read on my take on this product <a href="http://thephilippinebudgetarian.blogspot.com/2016/04/product-review-nature-republic-92-aloe.html" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>

Coverage is a big deal for me and if you're a makeup enthusiast like me, you'd know how important coverage is. That's why standards are set high for products that are dedicated to this - from foundations to BB creams to CC creams to tinted moisturizers, you name it; there's much research to perfect this make up "base". As a girl with oily skin this comes extra hard for me for I not only need to cover up, I also need to keep shine away from my face. That's why I thank the heavens for these lovely products.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8JOVsLxKgUM3iUk-1Lmu0Ua9g8yjW3dbAt2gxiF3_q5KL0bDqWhPp8esKk3rAvm0u1XotrPpviOejrVNsDZYRCT1ke8Cmiyo1et52ETFoGU1EtT_zRRKFNwTNLGu2CLow_4OMddMDPAo/s1600/Picture5.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="" border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8JOVsLxKgUM3iUk-1Lmu0Ua9g8yjW3dbAt2gxiF3_q5KL0bDqWhPp8esKk3rAvm0u1XotrPpviOejrVNsDZYRCT1ke8Cmiyo1et52ETFoGU1EtT_zRRKFNwTNLGu2CLow_4OMddMDPAo/s320/Picture5.jpg" title="Rimmel Stay Matte_TPB" width="320" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I bought these products as a set from <a href="http://www.yourmakeupstoreph.com/" target="_blank">YourMakeUpStorePH</a> last November. It includes Rimmel Kate Moss in shade 11 (which is a dark shade of red, in short, not for summer) and it cost me PhP. 1399 + shipping. I think that I got a bargain with this purchase (about PhP.350 per product) since they cost around 400 each on their own. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The first product that I've used in this set is the Pressed Powder which I got in the shade 001 (Transparent).</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpGF1jV3E2WhB2YJiM7G5qAslTINYWOb4FZaVxMBsj_NTKK6BlNGVRuBLcUlKRCg9OWG5CLZE68OCX9AnnG1b-lR1XzVp8FmXZD2MXSIsWWoWpgNyFvJxgZH8790E4aSkwhI4zt-amrnc/s1600/Picture4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpGF1jV3E2WhB2YJiM7G5qAslTINYWOb4FZaVxMBsj_NTKK6BlNGVRuBLcUlKRCg9OWG5CLZE68OCX9AnnG1b-lR1XzVp8FmXZD2MXSIsWWoWpgNyFvJxgZH8790E4aSkwhI4zt-amrnc/s320/Picture4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm the kind of girl that wants to be really shine free, and with other powders I'd get a bit of shine after 2-3 hours (if I didn't sweat through the makeup first). I was quite impressed when I first used this as a setting powder for I didn't feel the need to pile on as much powder as I normally would (which is good for my budget too since this pressed powder is worth WAY more than I usually spend on powders).</div>

"Up to 5 hours natural shine control with natural minerals. Helps minimize the appearance of pores. Dermatologically tested."</blockquote>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I couldn't personally attest the 5 hours natural shine control that this product promises when used on its own, but when I used with my former favorite foundation which is the Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation with Maybelline Baby Skin as primer, it did a really good job in keeping my face shine free. There are a few things I don't love about this though: the packaging is not good for travel and there were quite a few instances when it opened inside my bag, it's not good for retouch since it has the tendency to be cakey, and it's quite expensive compared to other pressed powders I've used.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The Rimmel Stay Matte Primer is the first creamy primer that I've used (I've mainly used silicon-based ones) and I love that it is very light on the skin, it does a great job in keeping my makeup intact, and is oil-free. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: center;">
"Skin-perfecting primer can be worn alone, under makeup or on top to create a perfect matte complexion. Controls shine for up to 8 hours. Ultra lightweight and helps minimize the appearance of pores."</blockquote>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've never worn this alone but I have tried putting this over makeup and to be honest, I did not think it helped with the retouch and I did feel uncomfortable wearing it over makeup (maybe it was the dewiness over powder? IDK). But I will give it another go in the future (if I remember to), maybe it was just the humid weather at the time.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG_M_7m7r-cXv5wkjOZBLSWLvVSL_SpFLUcaIeHgEnHvT1-aOQWj1ChVDQJPrtTGeZoKaVYFWNESRg2v__Gbck4i-CDKw2teaopkR-5Yjf0fXCL8maFqE3gPhzEBUUYYe8PC37WuC9Kes/s1600/IMG_4711.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG_M_7m7r-cXv5wkjOZBLSWLvVSL_SpFLUcaIeHgEnHvT1-aOQWj1ChVDQJPrtTGeZoKaVYFWNESRg2v__Gbck4i-CDKw2teaopkR-5Yjf0fXCL8maFqE3gPhzEBUUYYe8PC37WuC9Kes/s320/IMG_4711.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Liquid Mousse Foundation in the shade 201 (Classic Beige) surprised me with its consistency when I first used it. Like I've mentioned earlier, I've been using Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation as everyday makeup before and that was definitely more "liquidy" than this. This liquid foundation is more on the "moussey" side and I had a difficult time blending the product unto my face the first time I used it.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiHHDtKioApx_hWBSnPRRM0teN1BV-iUqKjmiemtizRdRIuOTbTVeByuxtRVAeaIypwkZbaB1CnXAzwwOTh5NJ3RPY9fTU7sebDsX8x8J749oEgskOzwiEKYlFxOddJlo2sAMixbjTQvQ/s1600/IMG_4712.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiHHDtKioApx_hWBSnPRRM0teN1BV-iUqKjmiemtizRdRIuOTbTVeByuxtRVAeaIypwkZbaB1CnXAzwwOTh5NJ3RPY9fTU7sebDsX8x8J749oEgskOzwiEKYlFxOddJlo2sAMixbjTQvQ/s320/IMG_4712.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br />
"Feather-light, liquid mousse blends flawlessly for natural-looking, all day shine control. Silky smooth formula leaves a perfectly matte, baby-soft finish. Lightweight texture won't feel heavy or greasy."</blockquote>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This foundation has medium coverage and it's not buildable I'm afraid (formula gets too cakey). Medium coverage works fine for me though and it does deliver on its promise of "lightweight texture". I did feel a tiny bit of dewyness (just enough to not completely dry my skin out) but this, I believe, is the oily girl's best friend. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When I first used these three products as a set (last December), I was a bit disappointed with them since my makeup got cakey. I stopped using them altogether aside from the pressed powder (which I really, really loved) and occasionally using the primer.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
About a month ago though, I decided to give it another try since I was running low on my current foundation. This time though, after using the primer, I gave the foundation time to warm up (meaning I squeezed some product on the back of my left hand and used the fingers on my right to rub the foundation back and forth and then dabbed the product onto my skin) and proceeded to do my eye makeup (eye liner, eyebrows and mascara) and lipstick first then proceeded to setting my makeup with the pressed powder. I was so surprised (and relieved and happy) that my makeup turned out flawlessly - no cakeyness at all! I recommend the use of the "warming up" trick on thick foundations and concealers for better blending as I'm not into using brush or sponge in applying foundation since, for me, it takes to much time (I'm just used to using my fingers for that job). </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyway, with that trick, I've learned that Rimmel Stay Matte really does a good job in keeping my face matte. I was able to put this to test when we joined the Black Friday and Easter Sunday processions during the Holy Week and I was just so impressed! The Black Friday Procession was preceded by a mass at around 3:00 and I had my face done around 2:00 PM. It was a super hot and humid day (around 37 degrees I think) and although the sun was down by the time the procession started at around 5:30 PM, it was still so hot. The procession ended at around 7:30 and I was covered with sweat by the time we got home at around 8:30 and I was really surprised that after a VERY hot afternoon, MY MAKEUP WAS STILL INTACT. I was sweating profusely and kept on wiping my face (gentle pats of course) so I didn't expect foundation to still be on my face six very hot hours after (with no retouches - not even blotting). Same thing happened on Sunday morning (which was a little less hotter day than Friday) when we attended the procession for Easter. With that kind of performance, I would be willing to spend a lot of time in the morning blending foundation into my skin (let me know in the comments section if you have blending techniques to share or maybe a blending brush that's easy to use for a newbie like me).</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So there goes my take on the Rimmel London Stay Matte line. Other products will have a hard time outperforming this line since I really loved it, it was cheap and perfect for my oily skin needs. I am currently using this as my everyday makeup although I don't think of it as one of my holy grail products, these are among the best products that I've ever tried.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Happy Monday everyone! I know, I know, happy and Monday don't usually go together but let me tell you a secret to make Mondays more bearable, HAVE SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For me, I usually have my nails done on Mondays (or Sunday nights), and I know a LOT of women out there are with me when I say that Mani-Pedis are the best way to unwind. I stick to one nail color a month (so as not to keep stressing myself on nail polish shades) and just keep fresh on a regular basis (I usually remove them Friday night if I don't have anything special for the weekend so as to let my nails "breathe").</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This month's nail polish is The Face Shop's Trendy Nails in the shade <a href="http://international.thefaceshop.com/english/product/productView.jsp?ctgr=ctgr&search=ca&prdidx=9506&prdtype=236&pageno=1" target="_blank">RD 302</a>. I wanted something bright and lively for the whole month of April (something that screams SUMMER) and my skin tone doesn't do well with pastel colors, so I played it safe with a bright shade of red (it's great since red makes the skin look lighter). Although, I forgot how much this nail polish costs, I'm pretty sure that it's between PhP. 100-200 price range. The application is quite easy with its slim brush (which I love in nail polishes). If there is one thing I don't like about this particular shade is that it's such a pain to remove it from the nails since it stains a bit and gets on your fingers upon removal, but a good nail base should do the trick with that.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Anyway, in February I talked about the Read Your Own Book Challenge (read all about it <a href="http://thephilippinebudgetarian.blogspot.com/2016/02/read-my-own-book-challenge.html">here</a>) and, as promised, I will be giving an update on the books I've crossed off my list.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpqNfF2togudEQTSzeO0TuqbqsEF4fgBD9PDFVAwCEmZ23RmXVdln2dwnVLGOP6Cktz7Q1ttg08CSEvophcI5iS-yx8tL6EfUfbrXhz5IG7jXp5gzRtkws12EmV3DsgbINQoadlzg7HYM/s1600/DSCN0135.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpqNfF2togudEQTSzeO0TuqbqsEF4fgBD9PDFVAwCEmZ23RmXVdln2dwnVLGOP6Cktz7Q1ttg08CSEvophcI5iS-yx8tL6EfUfbrXhz5IG7jXp5gzRtkws12EmV3DsgbINQoadlzg7HYM/s320/DSCN0135.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
Sadly, I've only gone through two books the whole month of March. I've had a couple of sick days and I've been reading through my e-reader a LOT since most of the time I've devoted for reading were at night (in bed, before sleeping), hence ebooks are much more sensible to read (in night mode, with the Wi-Fi turned off, of course). Of course I only included books that I physically have in the challenge, so reading ebooks didn't help me with my list.<br />
<br />
So, now, I'd like to talk about the two books I did cross off. First, I read Philippa Gregory's "The Lady of the Rivers", a novel from the Cousins' War series. I got my copy second-hand from Booksale for PhP. 100, though after reading this, I think I'm gonna be collecting hard-bound books of hers (so if you ever have a spare hard-bound copy or know of someone who's selling theirs, please do contact me!). I think the fact that I'm into history is why I love Gregory's books (I know, I know, I'm a geek) and I'm really interested in the War of the Roses, there's something in these stories that simply amaze me and reading Gregory's books can be compared to today's Fan Fictions on celebrities (I don't know what Fan-girling over a war says about me but, WTH).<br />
<br />
"A story rich in passion and legend, <i>The Lady of the Rivers </i>is the story of Jacquetta, Duchess of Bedford, a woman who navigated a treacherous path through the battle lines in the Wars of the Roses.<br />
<br />
When Jacquetta is married to the Duke ofBedfors, English regent of France, he introduces her to a mysterious world of learning and alchemy. her only friend in the great household is the duke's squire Richard Woodville, who is at her side when the duke's death leaves her a wealthy young widow. The two becaome lovers and marry in secret, returning in England to serve at the court of young King Henry IV, where Jacquetta becomes a close and loyal friend to his new queen.<br />
<br />
The Woodvilles soon achieve a place at the very heart of the Lancaster court, though Jacquetta can sense the growing threat from the people of England and the danger of their royal York rivals. As Jacquetta fights for her king and her queen, she can see an extraordinary and unexpected future for her daughter Elizabeth: a change of fortune, the throne of England, and the white rose of York...."<br />
<br />
I definitely enjoyed this book and, in my opinion, Gregory's writing is simply superb. Reading this book kept me on my toes - having to put down the book and research characters that kept turning up, I love knowing the story behind each character, good thing Gregory's <a href="http://www.philippagregory.com/books">website</a> is informative, so my research was quick and easy. I've read a few of Gregory's books: <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7148256-the-red-queen?from_new_nav=true&ac=1&from_search=true" target="_blank">The Red Queen</a>, <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5971165-the-white-queen?from_new_nav=true&ac=1&from_search=true" target="_blank">The White Queen</a>, and <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/37470.The_Other_Boleyn_Girl?from_new_nav=true&ac=1&from_search=true">The Other Boleyn Girl</a> and, like I've said earlier, I've been thinking of collecting her books. I quite like that she writes books on women's history though I'm no feminist, it's just unusual to be writing from a woman's point of view AND about women in history since we lived in a patriarchal world. Sometimes though, Gregory's books could be a little too heavy for me, so I stay away from her books whenever I'm stressed.<br />
<br />
Second book I've crossed off in my list was Dan Brown's "Angels and Demons". Dan Brown's works were quite controversial in the Catholic world and there was even an instance where his books were burned in public by devotees here in the Philippines. His work, "Inferno" cited Manila as one of the "gates of hell." Before I move on to my take on "Angels and Demons" though, I would just like to say that I am a Roman Catholic and have been since birth (or since my baptism, which was two months after my birthday). I have my beliefs and I do respect others on their own. For me, although Dan Brown's books are based on real stuff (history, technology, and all that), they are and always will be a work of fiction. I love the mystery, I love the action, I love the adventure and reading his works won't ever turn me Satanic (though, really, the Illuminati are NOT Satanists, rather, "the Enlightened Ones"). Moving on, I did like the fast-paced story of "Angels and Demons", and like Gregory, Brown's work are based on historical facts. Brown's work made me want to go to Rome so, so bad. Although, Rome already is in my list of places to go to, he gave me an idea on which places to visit and I know once I've been given the opportunity, I'd make my visit an educational one (nerd alert!).<br />
<br />
"When a world renowned scientist is found brutally murdered, a Harvard professor, Robert Langdon, is summoned to identify the mysterious symbol seared onto the dead man's chest. His conclusion: it is the work of the Illuminati, a secret brotherhood presumed extinct for nearly four hundred years - now reborn to continue their bitter vendetta against their sworn enemy, the Catholic church.<br />
<br />
In Rome, the college of cardinals assembles to elect a new pope. Yet somewhere within the walls of the Vatican, an unstoppable bomb of terrifying power relentlessly counts down to oblivion. While the minutes tick away, Langdon joins forces with Vittoria Vetra, a beautiful and mysterious Italian scientist, to decipher the labyrinthine trail of ancient symbols that snakes across Rome to the long-forgotten Illuminati lair - a secret refuge wherein lies the only hope for the Vatican.<br />
<br />
But, with each revelation comes another twist, another turn in the plot, which leaves Langdon and Vetra reeling and at the mercy of a seemingly invincible enemy..."<br />
<br />
I have to admit, there were parts of the book that were particularly too good to be true, but whenever I come across these parts, I simply remind myself that the characters where the best in their respective fields, and so I go on reading peacefully. "Angels and Demons" was action-packed and I had to admit, there were plot twists that really surprised me (which was saying something since I'm usually the kind of person who watches a movie and knows who the real villain is). The only other work of Dan Brown's that I've read before was "<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/976.Deception_Point?from_new_nav=true&ac=1&from_search=true" target="_blank">Deception Point</a>" and though I quite like his writing style, I wouldn't read his works consecutively so as not to get overwhelmed. Like "The Lady of the Rivers", I got my copy of "Angels and Demons" at Booksale for PhP.125, and I'm also looking for a hardbound copy of this (already have those of The Da Vinci Code and The Lost Symbol, and looking forward to completing the series).<br />
<br />
There goes my March RYOB Challenge update. I just noticed that both are historical fiction, a genre that I really love, so if you have suggestions for other books in the same genre, do comment them below. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy Tuesday everybody! On today's Top 5 Tuesday, I'll be sharing with you guys the top five stuff that I always have in my bag, all the non-makeup once that is, cause let's be honest, that deserves a Top 5 Tuesday of its own.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<h4 style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</h4>
<h3>
1. Hanky</h3>
<span style="font-weight: normal;">Call me old-fashioned but I'm that girl that always has a hanky in her bag. I have oily skin, am very sweaty, and I live in a tropical country; bringing a hanky around is just logical and it's the easiest way to freshen up. I also bring with me tissue and wet wipes, for additional boost of freshness whenever I need them, but a hanky's always the most reliable one.</span><br />
<h3>
2. Hand Cream</h3>
<div>
My hands tend to be so dry most of the time so I always have a hand cream with me. I'm in love with The Body Shop's hand cream in Shea Butter - a musky yet not overpowering smell and it does a great job in moisturizing my hands. It does cost a bit much for a tiny tube, but this stuff is really worth the money. I've learned my lesson in buying cheap hand creams that are not half as moisturizing as The Body Shop's and are really sticky, so I've been loyal to this one.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
3. Umbrella</h3>
<div>
Philippines may be a tropical country, but we also get a lot of rain throughout the year, and mostly on days when you least expect it, so having one handy is really helpful. I got an automatic foldable one so that it can fit my bag.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
4. Alcohol</h3>
<div>
Cleanliness is a must. This is something I've picked up from my mom. I keep my hands clean and the next best thing to soap and water is alcohol. I used to have hand sanitizer instead of alcohol, but sanitizers always left my hands sticky (something I can't stand), I have alcohol instead.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
5. Sunglasses</h3>
<div>
Again, tropical country - sun is almost always beating down our necks and squinting is not good for the eyes (nobody wants premature wrinkles, and prevention is better than cure). My pair is from Sunnies Studios as I have discussed in my February Haul.</div>
<div>

Confession: I'm obsessed with my nails. I have been since I've watched a local celebrity confessed that the nails are the one thing that she looks at and she believes that nails are the reflection of an individual's hygiene. I'm no OCD, but I tend to be very meticulous when it comes to personal hygiene.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I know I'm not the only girl in the world with this obsession and so I am dedicating an article series on this very topic. I usually have my nails professionally done once a month and maintain them on my own (every week for my hands and every two weeks for my toes), but I always allot two to three days to let my nails "breathe" by leaving them polish-free (usually weekends whenever there are no events and such). Mondays or Sundays are the usual days that I paint my nails fresh, something to make the start of the week more bearable.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This week's mani-pedi necessities are the following:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG3jzii312VpLD29Apl79QC_5HbVRhXG-DByQwVbumoTbfTR2mLIb594wRJexAeUIFp-YFwHB4DiyNMTWHkIhQtZ6Eeqv7tMI0jwZpVPh5-JfnD9WURskhh9QCR8XG9uOKyZ9UoSYV6yA/s1600/IMG_4625.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG3jzii312VpLD29Apl79QC_5HbVRhXG-DByQwVbumoTbfTR2mLIb594wRJexAeUIFp-YFwHB4DiyNMTWHkIhQtZ6Eeqv7tMI0jwZpVPh5-JfnD9WURskhh9QCR8XG9uOKyZ9UoSYV6yA/s320/IMG_4625.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Chic Nail Color in African Violet (Regular); around PhP.30, Mercury Drugs</li>
<li>Cutex Nail Color in Charmed (Matte); PhP.99 (bought on sale, 50% off - around PhP. 50), Watson's</li>
<li>San San Acetone-Free Nail Polish Remover Pads; PhP.49, HBC</li>
</ul>
<div>
As you can see, I'm not really particular about the brands of my polish, just the colors. And I love coordinating my hand and toe colors. An acetone-free nail polish remover is also a must-have; I know most of us grew up with using acetone removers but acetone is a no-no in order to maintain our nail health. I am loving this San San pads since it is ready to use anytime you need to, it also does a good job in moisturizing my cuticles. The best thing about it? It's super budget-friendly!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I used the Cutex nail color on my fingernails and Chic on my toes.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
With the beginning of March comes the start of summer season, and even though we are still enjoying the last few days of the cold weather, I am now looking for ways to battle the summer heat. And the best way to do just that is with a healthy smoothie. <a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You know those days when you just can't find the motivation to work out but you know working out would be good for you and still you don't feel like doing it? What I do to motivate myself on these days is to have a sort of "reward" for myself after I've done a workout. Those rewards vary on the type of day that I'm having - a long bath or a mask or a movie or a smoothie (especially on particularly hot days). So today I've experienced just that and decided that I'd have a banana smoothie after my workout (though it really isn't that hot) but the best thing here, really is that this whole recipe is under 250 calories (guilt-free!)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<h4>
What you need:</h4>
<div>
<ul>
<li>2 bananas, sliced</li>
<li>1 tbsp powdered milk (1/2 cup if you're using fresh milk)</li>
<li>1 tsp brown sugar</li>
<li>1 tbsp quick oats</li>
<li>crushed ice</li>
<li>1/2 cup water</li>
</ul>
<div>
Just mix it all together in a blender, put it in a mason jar and you're good to go. I personally prefer putting it in the freezer while I workout and work on it as soon as I'm done!</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
